I could have an 18 year old

Today I saw a cute newborn in clinic. The mom is 14 years old. Yup, got pregnant at 13. (at least she wasn't my patient prior to pregnancy, I'd feel like a failure. But she could still be my patient now.)
This mom will have an 18 year old when she's my age. I can't fully wrap my head around that. What will their lives be like?
I'm proud of my accomplishments in life. I went to college, and medical school. I've been a doctor for 5 years. I've traveled a lot. I'm supporting myself. And I met the best guy I've ever known, and married him.
Do I wish I had gotten married and already had kids over the past 5-10 years? Absolutely. I recently found a journal I kept (barely) in college and just before graduation, 10 years ago, I was so worried about finding my bashert and starting my family. It took much longer than I had ever planned! But I know I made the right decisions over the years. I'm with the person I'm *supposed* to be with, and we will have the family we are *supposed* to have.
Meanwhile, 3 months into this TTC thing, I'm frustrated. I know it's probably taken this long just for my body to adjust post OCP's, but it seems like everywhere I turn people are pregnant just by thinking about it.
It's not fair for a 13 year old to get pregnant. She probably only had sex a few times! She certainly wasn't trying, and would have chosen to NOT get pregnant if it had been a possibility (I didn't ask, but I'm guessing she didn't even have much knowledge about birth control). 18 years later, she'll be my age and maybe a grandmother already. And here I am, just praying I can get pregnant in the next few months so we can get moving on creating this family we've both always wanted.
Sigh.

Moving on up!

This past week, Mr. W and I moved to a new apartment. Kind of. He used to live here -- always with several roommates, and had converted the place from a 2 bedroom to a 4 bedroom (basically took away the living room). He moved out when we got married and for 4 months we were living in my 500 sq ft studio apartment. Fun! Healthy for newlyweds to always literally be on top of each other, right?

So when the lease on his place came up for renewal, we took it and kicked out the roommates. Took down the walls and now we have a huge apartment! The only way to afford this is for him to give up his office and work from the 2nd bedroom, but we gain so much that it's worth it.

NYC real estate is a mess. To get an apt, you have to have good credit and prove you make enough to afford it (40X the monthly rent). So while I don't love this place -- it's super old (=bad fixtures) and has zero amenities (yes, I totally got used to having a doorman the past 2 years) and isn't in a great neighborhood (basically Harlem) -- we would never be able to get a similar place now. And this being a 2 bedroom instead of a 1 bedroom (all we'd be approved for), we get a bigger kitchen and a 2nd bathroom!

This whole process was stressful -- first we had to make sure I have a job for next year (which I do, but no contract yet!), then deal with my old landlord and his, then actually move. But now we are here, and just need to finish unpacking! It's nice to have more than one room, although we are pretty much in the same one all the time. And yes, there is room for a baby. So if I could just actually ovulate, we could get moving on that too!
